Use Those Facebook Friend Lists!

Ever wonder what to do with professional contacts that are trying to become your Facebook friends? If you have mainly used your page for close friends and family, I understand your trepidation. But, what if I told you that you could separate out all your friends into lists and then decide what that list of friends had access to. For instance, your professional friends may have access to your info tab, but not your pictures or wall posts. This allows them to see links to your blogs or websites, but not what your other friends post on your wall.

HERE’S HOW:

  • Set up friend lists to separate out personal and professional contacts.
    • Go to Friends tab.
    • On the top you will see the “Create a New List” button. Click on it. If you don’t see it, click on the tiny “create” button at the bottom of the left hand menu.
    • Decide on a name for your group.
    • Add friends. Either one by one or use “select multiple friends.”

ONCE YOU HAVE SET UP YOUR LISTS, YOU CAN NOW REVIEW THE SECURITY SETTINGS.

  • On the top of your Facebook page, go to “Settings” and click on “Privacy Settings.”
  • Click on “Profile” and start customizing.
  • Ex: To stop your people from seeing photos that you are tagged in, click the drop down menu and go to “customize.” If you go to the bottom you will see an “Except These People” area. Add any person or friend list and they will be unable to view any pictures that you are tagged in.
